The Foster Parent Support Line is a toll-free provincial phone line available to foster parents, out of care providers and kith & kin homes. They provide support, direction, documentation on request and suggestions for dealing with challenging situations and behaviours. They can provide some assistance in emergencies.

new westminster After Hours

The New Westminster After Hours office provides generalized MCFD child welfare services to the areas described below 24 hours a day, 365 days and nights of the year. Foster parents can call after hours when they need a MCFD social worker after hours or on weekends.

Eastern Valley After Hours

The Valley office is part of the New Westminster Program and is staffed by one social worker who works the following hours:

Monday to Friday: 4:00 pm to 12:30 am
Saturday, Sunday, Statutory Holidays: 12:30 pm to 12:30 am

The Eastern Valley After Hours social worker is also responsible to provide After Hours services to the Aboriginal population who reside off reserve. The workers will also liaise with the Aboriginal After Hours Worker that provides After Hours services for Aboriginal people living on reserve.

provincial After Hours

The Provincial After Hours office provides generalized child welfare services to the province of BC 24 hours a day, 365 days and nights of the year. Other services to the Province include Community Living Services to children and adults, emergency income assistance, and support to resources.

Areas covered: Provincial After Hours services cover the Province of BC. Fraser region calls are referred to New West After Hours (see above).

Helpline for Children: 604-310-1234
The Helpline is always answered by a social worker. A child can call the Helpline for help, information, or advice; and adults can call the Helpline to report child welfare concerns or to request support services. Calls can be anonymous. The Helpline can be accessed without charge from any telephone or pay phone in the province.

The BC Government Ministry of Children and Family Development website can provide information to Foster Parents such info on becoming a foster parent, fostering aboriginal children, and FAQs.
